The Need for More Efficient Pool Controls

TightWatt(R) products were developed in response to a need for more efficient swimming pools. It is common knowledge that a pool does not require as much filtration during the cold winter months as during warm summer months, but there were no products available which offered year-round control (until we came along). Most pools currently use a 24-hour time clock for turning the filtration system on and off.

Social and Economic Changes
Electrical costs have continued to rise, and reducing energy usage has become "socially responsible". These tight financial times have given rise to the "staycation", as more people head to their backyard retreats to enjoy time with the family and get a reprieve from the summer heat. Investments in energy-efficient products can offer excellent, calculatable returns(**link to calculator**), to money-wise people who have grown tired of losing money in other investment arenas.

The 24-Hour Pool Timer
Pools used to run 24 hours a day, but beginning in the 1960's, a simple 24-hour timer (usually mechanical) was added to the system. This consists of a spinning metal disk, and screw posts that turn a switch on and off. While it is acknowledged that the 24-hour clock greatly reduced energy consumption, this technology is over sixty years old, and evolutionary improvements have been made in reducing pool energy consumption. TightWatt(R) timers have been awarded US Patent # 7,484,938 in recognition of this advancement.

The Evolutionary "Next Step" for Pool Controls
TightWatt(R) products offers efficient, year-round control for a pool filtration system. This is the evolutionary "next step" for pool controls as it is capturing the efficiency of a 24-hour clock, but also adding a year-round program which takes the pool filtration system to its optimum efficiency. The pool owner simply sets a "Summer Run" and "Winter Run", and the TightWatt(R) computes a year-round schedule from these two values. TightWatt(R) have been designed to snap into Intermatic(R) enclosures which reduces installation labor and part costs. Intermatic(R) enclosures are the most common enclosure on the market for existing pools.

Advancements in Pool Pump Motors
Around the same time the TightWatt(R) technology was being developed, another efficiency advancement was taking place. This was the development of 2-speed pumps. 2-speed pumps replace a single-speed pump motor (traditional), and offer the benefit of an ultra-efficient low-speed mode. The low-speed mode is also very quiet. Some consumers choose two-speed pumps solely because it increases the 'tranquility' of their backyard retreat. The low-speed is turned on through an additional motor winding, which requires an additional wire being fed through the conduit between the pool pump motor and the pool controller. This low-speed mode reduces the filtration costs of a pool significantly, as low-speed provides many more gallons filtered per dollar than high-speed. A 2-speed motor requires a two-speed controller to function properly.

TightWatt2
In response to the development of 2-speed pumps, the TightWatt2 was developed. The TightWatt2 incorporates the TightWatt year-round algorithm, while at the same time controls a 2-speed primary pump. The TightWatt2 also snaps into Intermatic(R) cases, but has additional features of a backlit display, and the ability to control both the primary pump and auxiliary/booster pump.

Summary
TightWatt(R) products meet the market needs of the "staycation" consumer while providing an excellent investment opportunity for the homeowner. Cash-strapped consumers will find our products provide excellent value as a simple retro-fit into their existing system. As our nation strives to be more energy-efficient, TightWatt(R) products offer one more piece of technology (among many) which will become part of a sustainable energy future. TightWatt(R) timers are currently in production, and way beyond the "idea phase" of product development. This creates an excellent opportunity for investors wishing to take advantage of the "growth phase" for this line of products.
